Northern Botswana Tertiary Education Career Expo Opens Doors to Future Opportunities

Under the theme “Bridging Gaps, Building Futures,” the Northern Botswana Tertiary Education Career Expo was officially launched, bringing together students, educators, government representatives and industry leaders to explore opportunities in higher education and career development.

Officiating the event, Assistant Minister of Higher Education Hon. Justin Hunyepa highlighted the importance of educational opportunities in preparing Botswana’s youth for the future. His remarks emphasised the need for accessible and inclusive education that equips students with the knowledge and skills to navigate an evolving world of work. This speaks to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), which advocates inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all.

The ceremony was also attended by His Worship Uyapo Nyeku, Deputy Mayor of Francistown, whose presence reflected the role of local leadership in supporting education and opportunities for young people.

Beyond the launch, the Expo provided a platform for students from across the region to engage with tertiary institutions, explore study options and learn about career opportunities. These interactions also created space for conversations about the skills employers need and the pathways students can pursue to prepare for the workplace.

By bringing education providers and industry representatives into the same space, the Expo highlighted the importance of connecting learning with employment opportunities. This is relevant to Sustainable Development Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), particularly its focus on equipping young people with skills that support access to productive employment.
