Our Story
A Purpose-Driven Journey
Boitekanelo College was founded in 2007 to meet the urgent need for Health Care Assistants (HCA) during the height of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Since then, we have developed a wide array of healthcare programs to produce highly sought after graduates, who play a crucial role in delivering quality healthcare outcomes. Our values of vision, innovation, courage, and compassion have guided us in widening our impact on the healthcare industry, locally and beyond.
At Boitekanelo College, we provide a holistic and inclusive environment for young minds to grow and thrive. Through innovation, collaboration, and the principle of Botho, we strive for a world where everyone can access quality healthcare and positively impact their communities. A record of steady growth, stronger programmes and an expanding contribution to healthcare education.
Foundation and early growth
Boitekanelo established its foundations, expanded its programme offering and grew into a recognised healthcare education provider.
- 2007: Registered as Boitekanelo Training Institute, launched the Certificate in Healthcare Assistance and began with three administrative and three academic staff members.
- 2008: Introduced the Certificate in Phlebotomy, increased the academic team to six, enrolled 150 students and secured Botswana Qualifications Authority accreditation.
- 2009: Added five certificate programmes, moved to larger premises at Kopanyo House and grew the staff complement to more than 40.
- 2010: Registered with the Human Resource Development Council, affiliated with Parkway College of Singapore, began construction of the Mogoditshane campus and reached 500 students.
- 2011: Became Boitekanelo College, offered five diploma programmes, operated across two campuses and enrolled more than 1,000 students per semester.
Campus development and academic expansion
The College entered a major development phase marked by a new main campus, broader qualifications, international academic links and growing student success.
- 2012: Developed the Tlokweng main campus, enrolled more than 1,200 students, grew to over 120 staff members and affiliated with Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
- 2013: Introduced degree programmes and higher national diplomas and held the first graduation ceremony.
- 2014: Relocated to the Tlokweng main campus, achieved COHSASA accreditation, hosted the first Emergency Medicine Conference, affiliated with the University of the Free State, added degree programmes and began Phase 3 construction.
- 2015: Enrolled more than 2,000 students, hosted the second Global Health Conference and celebrated the third graduation ceremony.
- 2016: Completed the Phase 3 building, consolidated the Mogoditshane campus at Tlokweng and signed an academic cooperation agreement with IDM in Emergency Medicine.
