Diagnofirm Creates Valuable Job Shadowing Opportunity for Quarm Club

Diagnofirm Medical Laboratories recently provided members of our QuARM Club with an opportunity to experience healthcare practice from within a professional working environment, giving students a practical perspective on the careers they are preparing to enter.

The job shadowing experience, undertaken during the school holidays, brought together students from Emergency Medical Care, Counselling, Hospital Service Management and Health Informatics. Across the programme, students observed patient care, laboratory operations, teamwork, professionalism and ethical practice.

For learners, exposure to a professional environment can add an important dimension to academic learning. Job shadowing allows students to observe how professionals apply their knowledge, interact with patients and colleagues, manage responsibilities and work within the standards expected in practice.

The experience also gave our students an opportunity to see the relationship between different areas of healthcare. With learners from four different programmes participating, the placement offered a broader view of how different roles and areas of expertise contribute to healthcare delivery.

Importantly, the opportunity was initiated by the QuARM Club members themselves. During the school holidays, the students approached Diagnofirm Medical Laboratories because they wanted to gain greater exposure to professional practice and learn from those already working in the field.

That initiative reflects an important part of student development: the willingness to seek experiences that complement formal learning. While the classroom and practical training provide the foundations, opportunities to observe professional practice can help learners develop a clearer understanding of workplace expectations and the responsibilities associated with their chosen careers.

The completion of the programme was recently recognised by Diagnofirm Medical Laboratories, which celebrated the students who graduated from the job shadowing experience.
