The Department provides competency-based, student-centred education in clinical dictation, health data management, medical transcription, and medical coding, including ICD classification. Teaching combines interactive lectures, case studies, and practical sessions to build strong theoretical knowledge and technical skills.
Students gain practical experience in Electronic Health Record (EHR) environments and complete a mandatory three-month Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) placement in healthcare facilities. They also participate in applied research and projects focusing on healthcare documentation, clinical coding, data quality, and health information governance.
Through partnerships with government hospitals, private healthcare facilities, and tertiary institutions across Botswana, students gain valuable industry exposure and workplace experience.
