Boitekanelo College and Good Shepherd forge lasting bonds
Over the weekend, Boitekanelo College successfully hosted a vibrant, unforgettable Sports and Cultural Exchange with Good Shepherd College of Health Sciences from Eswatini.
The fun-filled two-day event, which saw over 150 visitors from Good Shepherd, wasn't just a series of games and performances but a celebration of friendship, collaboration and the invaluable role of education beyond the lecture hall.
The festivities kicked off on Friday, 12 September 2025, with an intellectual showdown, a debate competition that highlighted the sharp minds and public speaking prowess of students from both institutions.
The exchange, which Boitekanelo College's team won, was a testament to the power of critical thinking and respectful discourse.
The spirit of competition and teamwork continued into Saturday at the BNYC sports grounds, as focus switched from mental ability to motor skills.
The day was filled with high-energy football, netball and volleyball matches.
"Our students had a fantastic time unwinding and engaging in friendly competition, displaying not only their athletic skills but also their resilience and unity," reflected Sports Manager of the day, Botumile.
The weekend reached its colorful climax with a spectacular cultural night.
The popular Dilo Makwati traditional group serenaded the crowd with their captivating dances and songs, while the students from Eswatini showcased their rich cultural heritage through their own traditional performances.
It was a truly joyful and appreciative atmosphere, as students from both nations shared and celebrated their diverse traditions, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for each other's cultures. Director of Student Services at Boitekanelo College, Dr. Kagiso Kgakge, stressed that such initiatives are vital for nurturing well-rounded individuals.
“Last year, Boitekanelo College visited Good Shepherd College for a similar event, and we were delighted to reciprocate this year. This ongoing exchange reflects our commitment to fostering not just academic excellence, but also cultural awareness, social cohesion, and personal growth for our students,” she noted, adding both events underscore the growing partnership between Boitekanelo College and Good Shepherd College.
“These exchanges are more than just a good time; they are a platform for our future health professionals to build confidence, teamwork, leadership and intercultural understanding. By fostering friendships and mutual respect, these events prepare students to become leaders who can work effectively across borders and cultures, embodying the values of collaboration and regional solidarity,” concluded Dr. Kgakge as the audience responded with a warm applause.
